I don’t want to say much more, because I’ve become a firm believer in realizing that if I talk about it then I won’t end up doing it. . .

But you can see what I did tonight~ Juuust a little bit of it, though.

The Bellingham School of comics is a wonderful thing. Every Thursday people who want to work on their comics/art go to a coffee shop downtown, and work on their comics/art. I invited my friend/coworker to come with me this time, and DANG I’m so glad I was able to go! I’m going to make more of an effort to go, and work on my things. Even if it’s only on that night, but… I think I’m getting myself worked up well enough to do work outside of Thursdays.

Was finally able to meet a super classy someone outside their workplace and hang out and FINALLY SEE THEIR WEBSITE! Their blog, Calamity Cove, is described by them as thus:

A blog with a disproportionately high amount of drag queen and pit bull photos. (So far, no pit bulls in drag.)

If you want something wonderful and witty to add to your blogging sphere of reading I suggest adding this, because IT’S SO WONDERFUL. Every Tuesday there are Pit Bull video’s and they’re adorable and there’s also really amazing drawings and art and aaaaaaaaaaaauuuuugggghhhh~

I feel very out of sorts. I may be feeling a little less so, but I … don’t think I’m quite there… Drawing has been giving me some good feelings again. A nice change from feeling total and utter anxiety when looking at a blank sheet of paper like I have been.

I haven’t made a mini in so long. And while I don’t count this as a mini, really, since it’s just pictures of cute dogs I’m still incredibly glad that I made this. It was fun, and I … I really really miss comics, guys. So bad.

I also offered to paint portraits of anyone’s pets int he style of those dogs I painted way back when.

I GOT TWO OFFERS!! I better email those folks… yes.

So I gave in to the demands of the modern cartonist’s world, and got me a smart phone.

This should mean I’ll upload more pictures of things as I work on them! But it might really mean that you get more life related posts than you bargained for.
Either way. It has begun.

BECAUSE I HAVE A JOB. WOO. It’s a good job, but not an art job, but it is money, and I am grateful for it. I haven’t drawn much as a result, but I have drawn a little. Click them, if they look small, to embiggen!

I somehow decided to start reading Elf Quest, and……. I’m hooked. The ENTIRE SERIES is online, provided by the creators themselves, for you to read! So… I ended up drawing my own. She looks more like an older Dewshine, but that’s okay.

My new job is at the seafood department of a grocery store... fish has been on my mind.

I miss charcoal more than I realized. Here are some two minute gesture sketches with a charcoal stick.

Then I decided to flesh out a figure. I didn't draw her face, but I'm pretty pleased with the rest.

I decided to try it out by sketching things! I haven’t ever really drawn with my left hand before, so I was worried how the drawings might turn out. The results really surprised me!

A surprising lesson was learned here. My right hand, which can draw fairly quickly,  switched to “auto-pilot” mode. It gave in to shortcuts for ways I draw certain things. While with my left hand, because it’s unpracticed and slower, gave me the time to really just draw what I saw without trying to give a style to the drawing.

Although both of the drawings here only focus on the contour lines of his head and torso it was surprisingly fun. And I could feel my brain straining, because my left hand couldn’t keep up the speed I was used to with with my right hand.

I’m pleasantly surprised with these drawings. I think this is just the thing I’ve been needing to feel more productive with my artwork. What better way to learn to draw again than to start from the beginning: How to hold a pencil… haha!
