And this one, below, won me the Model’s Choice Award! A $50 Dollar certificate to the bar the session took place at!! Man, what a way to boost my confidence! One model pointed out to the other that I drew great boobs on the girl with the black corset. I was pretty pleased with that, I gotta admit.

As soon as I left the bar, when the session was over, and started biking home I immediately felt a rush I hadn’t felt in a very long time. Of being surrounded by creative people having fun with good food and drink. I think that’s why going to comic conventions is so great, and is exactly why I’m always so disappointed when I miss one. Not only do you spend the day seeing the works of people you admire in person, wandering the booths and discovering new works you want to see again, but at the end of the day you gather with friends, and friends of your friends to sit in a small hotel room to drink and draw!

How is it that sitting in a room full of people doing the same thing as you makes it so much better? So much easier, almost? I don’t know the science behind it, but it works for me! I met three pretty awesome people last night that I hope I meet again. I met the resident photographer of the event Jessica Olson. She was scooting around the room taking photos of everyone sketching and their drawings, and plenty of the models, I’m sure! They were so much fun, by the way. From the look of her site I am excited to see how last nights’ photos turned out! I also met an artist named Johnny McCollach, and his friend who was also attending Dr. Sketchy’s for the first time, Eric Shew! They both run their own studios and they were so much fun to hang around! I hope to meet them again.

This is something I regret not doing when I was still living in the small town I moved from. I had friends who enjoyed drawing as much as me, but I never seriously pushed for us to get together to doodle, drink, and have fun. And now we’re all split apart across the country. But I’m grateful that this city has something like this.

The night at Dr. Sketchy’s was just what I needed to get me off my butt and… well. Back onto my butt, because I have to sit to draw… you know what I mean, right??

Then, to top it all off, my friend Kate just posted this video of John Cleese talking about being creative! He caught every feeling I have ever felt into a wonderful 34 minute video, and… you know what? I’ll just post it.

SO my housemate and I have a project we’re working on! I’m illustrating her story, while she’s helping me flesh out my story, and then I’m illustrating that, too!

I think I spent at least 5 hours, if not more, on the first page of her project. The first page… I need to color more efficiently. But it looks… really really pretty.

I’ve been a little busy, but not too much. Let me share some things that have occupied my time.

As a side project I’ve been painting dogs that are currently adoptable through my city’s Alternative Humane Society! It’s a no-shelter no-kill dog rescue. All the dogs I’m painting are dogs that actually exist, and are looking for homes. I want to make some prints of these so I can give the profits of selling prints to the Humane Society.

… But people have to buy them first. I’m still figuring out a way to advertise these. I’ve only shown them off on small websites I frequent.

But the time I spent looking dug into my savings an uncomfortable amount… Paying application fees, traveling back and forth, basic food expenses, and places to stay while looking has drained the savings I had in order to pay for several months for my share of rent. Now I’m in a bit of a bind. I’m currently searching for work, and it hasn’t been going very well, but I’m looking.

I think that the only reason I dreamed about the game, before seeing my friend play was…I’m almost pretty sure because I watched either my cousin, or my neighbor, play it when I was too young to pay attention to those kinds of things.

That didn’t stop me from thinking of Ocarina of Time as my dream game. I loved it then, and I’m still loving it now.
